Washington, DC

A short visit, in April 2007

(Click any picture to enlarge. And try the arrow keys.)

The White House lawns, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Ellipse (closed for renovations).

By chance we arrived for the peak of the cherry blossoms, the busiest weekend of the year.

(The trees were a gift from imperial Japan, in 1912.)

Lincoln, Korea, and Vietnam.

(About as many Americans died
at Gettysburg as in Vietnam.
I was suprised by this.)

The recently opened second world war memorial.
A kite festival
around the Washinton monument
Art museums from outside,
and inside the library of congress

Classical is the theme; it gets a smart modern interpretation in the subway.

The only museum we went into was the air & space museum, which has everything you'd expect:

(It seemed odd, to me, to have nuclear missiles in such a fairground atmosphere.)

I went here on the way home from Kentucky.

Another slightly experimental page, this one made with Highslide to
display the enlargements, and inspired by Aperture's light table view...
